December Book-a-Day 4: Christmas Cookies

Dec-book-a-day

Each day in December we will be sharing one of our favorite Christmas storybooks and an activity to go along. (Affiliate link included for your convenience.)

Book

Amy Krouse Rosenthal's Christmas Cookies: Bite-Size Holiday Lessons is a particularly darling holiday read. The illustrations by Jane Dyer are so very tender. Each page shares a word like "perseverance" (great vocabulary activity!) and the meaning learned from baking Christmas cookies: "We tried and tried and tried, and finally we made the perfect non-burned batch." I recently read this book with my 4 year old and while the definitions were sometimes a little abstract for her, she still enjoyed the book and the pictures. And exposure to tier 2 vocabulary words like this is always good no matter what your child's age. We think you will love this book and the sweet lessons for your little ones.

It goes without saying that when you read this book you MUST make Christmas Cookies! There is a simple Sugar Cookie recipe at the end of the book or here is another yummy recipe. Don't forget the sprinkles!
