You’re invited to become a member of the Fluency in a Flash Club for only $1 for the first week.
But you may have questions before joining. You’ve got questions, I’ve got answers!
Here are the most Frequently Asked Questions about the Fluency in a Flash Club membership.
What is Fluency in a Flash? I’m new to Second Story Window.
First of all, welcome! The Fluency in a Flash program is a brief, targeted routine for practicing reading fluency daily. Each day of the week focuses on a specific fluency skill and can be completed in 2 or 3 minutes. Simply project the day’s lesson video on your board and guide your students through the activity. Offer feedback on how they’re reading and, if time allows, give them the opportunity to reread some or all of the day’s materials. When we help students recognize words effortlessly and teach them to read with appropriate expression and phrasing, we’re allowing them to access texts in a more meaningful way. Reading fluency is the key to unlocking the magic of reading.
What is a Fluency in a Flash lesson like?
If you’ve never seen one in action before, we made a video of us doing a Fluency in a Flash lesson with my kids recently. This is what it would be like when you do it with your own students. NOTE: the videos from us do NOT include teacher commentary or student response like this. You’ll provide the commentary yourself and your students will provide the responses. You’ll use the pause button to pause the videos to allow time for your students to respond.

What does a Fluency in a Flash VIDEO look like in the membership?
Here’s a sneak peek inside of the membership:
Each video includes several clickable timestamps so you can easily skip over portions of the lesson you don’t have time for or skip to the day you need.
Can I try out a sample lesson?
The $1 One Week trial is the perfect way to sample the Fluency in a Flash video lessons!
How much content will there be?
We will have 50 videos for each grade level (1st-4th) and 18 seasonal videos for each grade level. That will be 250+ videos!
The membership will likely grow in other content ways in the future but that’s the plan for now.
How is the Fluency in a Flash Club membership different than the lessons available on TpT?
The lessons available for purchase on TpT are downloadable PowerPoints. They require PowerPoint and a desktop or laptop computer to use them. The files can be quite large and sometimes are difficult to play on an old computer. But lots of people have them, love them, and use them daily.
We created the Fluency in a Flash membership for those who can’t use the PPT for whatever reason. The content will be virtually the same as what has already been available in the PPTs.
Here’s what’s different about a membership lesson:
- It’s a video, not an interactive presentation (though we hope to launch an interactive version of the membership in the future).
- It does not require PowerPoint or any special software.
- It does not require the lessons to be downloaded. They’re web-based.
- The design is significantly updated on some of the lessons (3rd and 4th) and will continue to be updated on others (1st and 2nd). We outgrew the file size limits on TpT so we cannot update the designs there any further.
What are the benefits of becoming a member of the Fluency in a Flash club?
- You’re joining now at the lowest monthly price we will ever offer.
- You get access to the content for all grade levels. In the future, we expect multiple grade levels may be an additional cost.
- You don’t have to download any large files that have to be stored on your computer or deal with lagging/freezing issues in PowerPoint.
- You don’t have to own PowerPoint (this is a BIG benefit since many of you have wanted to use Fluency in a Flash but don’t have access to PowerPoint).
- You get to enjoy whatever future benefits we add to the membership.
- You will get access to the interactive site we’re building for the membership in the future.
And the trade-off for joining now at this crazy low price is that the videos aren’t complete yet. We’ll be adding more weekly until we’re done.
If I already own the Fluency in a Flash PowerPoints, do I need the membership?
Nope! You’re good to go with whatever you already own! But if you think you may be interested in more grade levels or the future additions that may come to the membership, or you want to try out the new designs or multiple grade levels, we’d love to have you join us in the membership.
Also, even if you already own the PPTs, we can’t offer any additional discounts on top of this already low offer. Your purchase was for PPTs, which you received and now own forever! This monthly club fee is for access to the membership website. It costs us money to host the site and to pay the web developers and graphic designer working on the interactive site we’re still building for the membership. We have and will be continuing to invest significant time and money into this passion project because we believe in it so much.
Can I assign the videos to my students in Google Classroom/Seesaw/ etc?
Short answer: no.
Long answer: someday hopefully. We’re still working on the fully interactive website version we’ve been working on over a year. That is functionality we hope to offer to the membership when we launch that site eventually.
You will need to share the video with your class by logging into Kajabi and playing it in your physical classroom or virtually (as described below).
How do I use Fluency in a Flash virtually?
The same way you would teach any whole group lesson virtually, whether that’s over Zoom or Google Meet or something else. You play the video on your screen, displaying on a screenshare with the students, pausing the video as needed to discuss and allow time for practice. You will need to be able to access Kajabi.com and Vimeo.com wherever you intend to access the videos.
I hope that answers any questions you have about the Fluency in a Flash Club, but if not feel free to send me an e-mail! [email protected]
