Our Rain Gutter Shelves

I've shown our book shelves here before but I realized I never really explained them so let me tell you a bit about our rain gutter book shelves.

As I mentioned in the previous post, Adelaide doesn't usually have a long attention span for books, unless they are board books that she sits down to look at herself. I really want to foster a love of reading in her so I felt it was important to make her books appetizing and accessible.

We used these directions to make them. I'm serious when I say that it was an incredibly easy project. I showed it to my husband in the morning and we went to Home Depot for the supplies (which were pretty cheap except we had to buy a hack saw and a stud finder as well.) It was up and loaded with books in about an hour! The end brackets come off really easily so I still need to get ours glued on.

I try to rotate the books fairly often. Addie always notices when there are new ones and spends a lot of time over they are new. I really like that this gives her the ability to easily pick up her own books and put them away, which is something we're still working on.
